Non Formal School for Street Teenage

It all started with the reality that most of drop outs street teenagers or not even ever been to formal school before teenagers were not optimally served at SA Tutorials. Therefore by just having 4 units of secondhand PCs, available space at 2nd floor of SA’s secretariat at Tambak, 4 tutors, curriculum, and simple educational material, Child’s Activity Centre (PKA) was born in the early 2006.

Long distant goal of PKA is for students to realize their inner potentials and able to make use of it to the best to become an independent individual. During the 1st year, 20 students of SA Tutorial house and partners delegations enlisted. In the 2nd year, number reached to 25, and SA still maintains the same number in the year 2008.

PKA’s schedule is Monday-Friday, from 9 am to 3pm and the location has been moved to a rented house behind SA’s secretariat, partitioned to classrooms, tutor’s room, library, cooking room and store room. Learning materials are common knowledge (Science, Social study, Indonesian, Math, and English), life-skill (culinary, garage, computer, handcraft, modern agriculture, make-up styling), character building, and extra curriculum (sport, dance, play, music).

Every PKA’s student is given transport money, provided lunch (shop and make lunch together), and free study materials, including registration fee of Kejar Paket’s Test (for those who have potential in returning to formal education equivalent to elementary, junior and senior high). Until now, PKA has made 6 students return to formal education, 4 students transferred to Modern Agriculture and 1 has become an assistant teacher to teach his junior back in PKA.
