Jakarta, June 27, 2009 – The clock stroke 10.30 evening but the discussion was long from over in Sahabat Anak Jamboree organizers’ meeting. Nineteen volunteers from various working units filled the second floor of SA headquarter on Tambak street, Central Jakarta. They were the ones responsibled for the Jamboree which to be conducted in one week.

There would always be things to deal with before the annual event. Food and Beverage unit was busy checking and rechecking the number of participants – SA children, high school students and volunteers – to be fed. In another corner of the room, the running of event was being discussed and special matters needed attention were noted.

Organizing a two day camping event involving 430 street children, 200 volunteers and dozens of high school students was never easy. Jamboree organizing committee has been busy since it was established in March 2008.

Coordinator Rolof Satriyanto, interviewed after the meeting, said that he was very optimistic. “I am optimistic that the Jamboree will be another success.” Although the organizers made a different event concept this year by incorporating Jakarta high school students, Rolof said that there was no serious problem encountered so far.

“This was the twelfth Jamboree held, so most working units have understood their scope of work and functions. It made work distribution easier,” he added.

Everything would be easier if being done together, and perseverance bore results. The solid team work paid well when the XII Jamboree ended with content smiles on the children, volunteers and participants’ faces. (MAR)
